Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT)

CBCT (cone beam computed tomography)

An X-ray examination with minimal radiation that produces a precise 3D image of the area examined.

One of the newest technologies in dental diagnostics, which we also have at our dental centre, is CBCT. It is a device that works on the principle of conventional CT, but with a cone-shaped beam. The detector for the emitted beam is larger than in CT, which makes it possible to create a 3D image with a single circular rotation around the patient.

The radiation dose from CBCT is no higher than from a standard X-ray examination, yet it provides much more precise and detailed 3D images. These make it possible to create a model of the whole jaw or the area examined, which makes it easier and quicker to establish the correct diagnosis and to plan and carry out the necessary procedure.

CBCT has an irreplaceable role in implantology. Thanks to it, we have precise information about the condition of the bone into which the implant will be placed, the position of the floor of the maxillary sinus and the nerves in the area. The device is also used in endodontics, where it shows the inside of the tooth and gives an overview of the position of the root canals and any damage to the tooth. CBCT is also used in the extraction of wisdom teeth and in the treatment of periodontal disease.

The CBCT imaging software can be linked to the CEREC system.
