Light-cured composites

Aesthetic and durable white fillings that harden when exposed to a special light.

Today, amalgam fillings are being replaced by light-cured composite fillings.

Light-cured composites are mixtures of an organic resin binder and an inorganic filler. They set (cure) immediately when illuminated with a special curing lamp.

A major advantage of these fillings is their natural colour, matching your own tooth. Light-cured composites come in many shades and degrees of opacity. They polish well and bond well to the tooth, so less of the tooth needs to be drilled away, and they can also strengthen the filled tooth.

Light-cured composites also do not conduct heat and contain no mercury, yet they are mechanically strong enough and resistant to acids. They can be used to treat front teeth as well as molars.

One disadvantage of light-cured composites can be darkening, which depends mainly on your diet and also on your oral hygiene. Good hygiene must be maintained carefully, because composite fillings have no antibacterial effect.
