Metal-ceramic crowns

A metal coping with a high-quality, highly aesthetic outer layer of ceramic replaces a lost tooth.

Metal-ceramic crowns have been used in dentistry for more than 50 years.

The inner shell is made of metal, which gives the crown sufficient mechanical strength. This part is fitted onto the previously prepared tooth. The visible outer part is made of high-quality, durable ceramic, so the crown looks natural. This type is cheaper than all-ceramic crowns, but it has the disadvantage of a possible allergic reaction. A growing number of people suffer from this type of allergy.

Another disadvantage of metal-ceramic crowns is that a dark transition between the metal and the ceramic may be visible at the necks of the teeth.
