Treatment under anaesthesia

Local anaesthetic and sedation

Pain-free treatment, and stress-free even for anxious patients.

Consultation before treatment

About the field

Pain during treatment is no longer necessary today. Local anaesthetic is the basis we use for every procedure where there would otherwise be a risk of pain.

Fear is another matter. Anaesthetic does not remove it — and it is precisely because of fear that many people put off a visit for years, until pain or swelling sets in.

That is why treatment also includes what happens around it: an explanation of every step, an agreed signal to stop, and the option of sedation for more extensive procedures.

Tell us about your fear in advance. It is nothing we have not heard before, and it changes our approach from the very first minute.

What it offers

Pain-free treatment

Local anaesthetic is reliable. For procedures that could be painful, it is a matter of course, not an extra.

Fear you can manage

A clear explanation of the procedure, the option to stop at any time and extra time. For most anxious patients, this is enough.

Sedation for extensive procedures

Longer treatment can be managed under sedation. The procedure can then be done in one go instead of over several visits.

Managing the gag reflex

A strong gag reflex makes impressions and treatment of the back teeth impossible. But it can be managed.

Returning to care

People who have been afraid for years tend to have more problems to deal with. The main aim of the first visit is therefore that a second one follows.

The patient in control

An agreed signal to stop. Knowing that treatment can be stopped at any time reduces tension in itself.

How we work

Agreement in advance

Tell us about your fear before you sit down in the chair. We will adapt our approach accordingly.

Gentle local anaesthetic

Before the injection, we numb the area with a gel. The injection itself is then barely noticeable.

The patient in control

We agree on a signal you can use to stop the treatment at any time. Knowing that you can reduces tension in itself.

Sedation

For more extensive procedures or marked anxiety, sedation can be added. We discuss it in advance, including any restrictions after the procedure.

Frequently asked questions

I am afraid of needles. What can be done?

We numb the injection site with a gel beforehand and inject slowly. Most patients describe feeling only pressure.

How long does the anaesthetic last?

Usually two to four hours. Do not eat while it is wearing off — you could bite your cheek or lip.

Can I drive after sedation?

No. After sedation, you need someone to accompany you and rest for the remainder of the day; we will agree on the details in advance.

I have not been to the dentist for ten years. Will you hold it against me?

No. We are interested in where things stand now and how to move forward — not in what happened before. For most patients who have stayed away for a long time, the reason is a bad experience, not laziness.

Is sedation safe?

Yes, when the protocol is followed. We discuss your health, medication and the restrictions after the procedure in advance — we do not carry out sedation without this.

Can I stop the treatment at any time?

Yes, and we agree on a signal for it in advance. It is part of the procedure, not a concession.
