An artificial, functional and aesthetic replacement for the crown of a tooth. It is fitted onto a previously prepared, ground-down tooth.

Dental crowns are used to restore the function of a tooth. A crown is a prosthetic restoration that replaces the lost part of a tooth when a filling or an onlay of any type can no longer be used. The tooth must first be properly treated before the crown can be fitted.

Crowns can be full (covering the whole tooth) or partial (a partial crown), covering the damaged part of the tooth.

Crowns can be made of various materials

  • Metal crowns, which are now being abandoned. They are a distinctly unaesthetic solution.
  • Resin crowns, used as a temporary solution before the final treatment, because they are not sufficiently durable or colour-stable.
  • Metal-ceramic crowns, made of metal and ceramic. The framework is metal and the visible surface of the crown is ceramic, so the crown is also aesthetic.
  • Ceramic crowns, the highest-quality crowns, which are very aesthetic and durable. They therefore have a long lifespan and, thanks to CEREC technology, they can also be made quickly, literally while you wait, and fitted straight away.
